OQB strives to offer a variety of classes along with the newest tips and techniques.  We offer lots of classes that range from very introductory level to advanced, and everything in between that includes quilting, garment sewing, bags and much more.

This is a beginning / on-going quilt class for all levels ranging from introductory to very advanced. Janet will work with you in completing your projects as you continue to develop your quilting skills. Class Registration

OQB has a fabulous staff of teachers ready, willing and very qualified to provide instruction for all levels of quilters and sewers.  To help ensure the class you want to take is a "go", please sign-up early.  Waiting until the last few days before a class is to start risks cancellation and disappointment to both the teachers and students.  By registering early you will ensure your class of choice is a "go", have time to gather supplies and do pre-class work if necessary.  Teachers are notified of class cancellation 3 days prior to the class date.
As a reminder, class fees are fully refundable if class is cancelled by OQB if teachers "minimum attendance" is not met.

Classes


This is a beginning and on-going quilting class providing the opportunity to start from an introductory level of learning to quilt and / or continue to develop your quilting skills with an experienced instructor. Once you've learned the basics, Janet will allow you to choose your own projects and she will guide you through them with lots of fun, laughter and good instruction. Four sessions of three hours each.

Cost: $ 65.00
For the month of May, Janet will only have 2 classes. (12:00-4:00) May, 7th and May 28th. The price will be $30.00 each session. Normal schedule for the month of April. This is a beginning / on-going quilt class for all levels ranging from introductory to very advanced. Janet will work with you in completing your projects as you continue to develop your quilting skills. Beginners will learn accurate rotary cutting, precise piecing and assembling your blocks, borders and binding to finish a wonderful quilt you will be proud of. Three class meetings most months. Only 2 classes offered in May. $30.00 each class

Friendship Groups

Do you want to quilt your own quilts, table runners and wall hangings? A Machine Quilting class will help you to do just that. Janet and Lisa will be sharing their tips and techniques starting from the pinning stage to stippling to simple designs. This class is for all levels wanting to learn to machine quilt as well as on-going students wanting to improve and develop their machine quilting skills.

JoMarie is OQB's expert in teaching fusible applique. This is a "you choose" the project class. JoMarie will work with you to learn accurate pattern tracing, cutting out fabric pieces and then perfectly fuse them to your project. She will also teach you both hand and machine applique using the buttonhole stitch. Join JoMarie and friends to learn and continue working on fusible applique projects in wool and / or cotton.

Put on your fuzzy slippers and join Pam Gayle for an afternoon of sewing / quilting. She is available to help you with any project you choose. Fun, fun, fun and more fun as you spend your day in your slippers (if you like) quilting and sewing.

Fuzzy Slipper night is held the first Saturday evening of each month. "Fuzzy" is so popular that advance sign-up & prepayment is strongly recommended. This is a "you choose" sewing and quilting evening that you work on your own projects. Sewing hours are generally 6 - 10 pm.

Applique is a great way to show off stitching skills. You've seen those beautiful perfect hand applique projects at the shop and thought "I don't know if I can, but I'd sure like to learn". Kathy Blum is one who makes those projects including the English Cottage BOM. She is going to share her tips, techniques and secrets. She will teach several methods including traditional needle turn and combine some new techniques to practice in class. Fun, portable and a relaxing kind of quilting.

This is an entry level class to teach kids how to to sew while making fun projects as well as simple apparel items. Students should have their own sewing supplies and preferably their own sewing machines. The shop will have two or three machines that can be used, but it is always better to have your own. A list of supplies will be available at registration. Book required.

There are many variations of a Lover's Knot, but this one is my favorite. I like the soft curves that remind me of a knot and the intricacy that echoes Love's complexity. This class is a TECHNIQUE class geared to hold your hand through the piecing of the curved block. Several "tricks of the trade" will be shared. I will help you to figure yardages if you choose to create your own version.

Machine embroidery classes on Friday evening with Janet and Nancy starts at all levels including from the very beginning if you've recently purchased an embroidery machine or own one but don't know how to use it. Each session you will learn something new ranging from thread knowledge, stabilizing, downloading designs and machine / computer operations. Each lesson is 4 hours (6 - 10 pm) for a $30.00 fee

Paper piecing the Judy Niemeyer way is a wonderful technique that enables you to sew even the smallest pieces of fabric together with ease and amazing accuracy. Cat Wilson, a Certified Quiltworx instructor, will teach you Judy's paper piecing technique and share her secret tips to success. This on-going class is designed to introduce you to the paper piecing technique through more advanced techniques as you progress. Start any time and take as many classes as you would like.

Christmas will be here before your know it and you'll be ready to decorate your home with Patti D's adorable new Christmas pillow. Join Patti D for this 2 day class and learn her "super easy" raw edge applique. Bring your holiday themed fat quarters, scraps and buttons, and Patti will supply all the applique patterns you'll need in class.

Did you ever believe that you could create a beautiful fabric Holiday Poinsettia without a pattern or extensive quilting and sewing experience? Well, of course you can? Please join us Saturday, October 28th from 10:00 to 4:00 with your sewing machine and a few inexpensive fabric scraps, scissors and supplies. This class is a perfect start to learning fabric art and landscapes.

Join OQB's newest teacher, Nancy Mershon, for Quilty Treasures! In this class you will work on your own "quilty treasure." Nancy brings many years of experience and creativity working with quilts, stitchery, or wool applique . Bring a project to finish or start a new one. Come join us on the 3rd Friday of each month for this new class.

Our 2017 Saturday Sampler begins May 13th and continues on the second Saturday for 12 months. You must attend to get your next block of fabric for free, otherwise there will be a $5.00 charge for each block not picked up at the Saturday Sampler Session. The last day to sign up for this event is April the 28, 2017.

Break away from boring borders! Scalloped edges make your quilt look more interesting and works with most styles. It's especially sweet on 30's, soft florals, and baby quilts. In this class you'll learn how easy it is to accurately measure and cut your scallop edges or wavy edges. Judy will also show how to make a bias binding with tricks to sew it on. Bring a finished quilt or pre-quilted fabric work on in class.

Got scraps or stash that's overwhelming you? Get ready to make a BIG dent and use it up. This is a quick and fun way to use up lots of odds and ends. Even the UGLY stuff work in this quilt. Use already cut 2" strips or cut up fat quarters or odd pieces of yardage that you've been looking to liquidate. Like a more coordinated look? This quilt is fun and addictive for all skill levels.

This class is for any level of sewer from introductory to advanced. For those who want to advance their skills or work on a specific project, Lisa and Karen will work with you to complete your projects. Classes will generally be held four consecutive Monday evenings. All levels will be instructed individually in each class. Class can also be paid on a "per class" basis of $15.00 per session.

For those of us who have a difficult time parting with that last little bit of a favorite fabrics or those who are in need of some help with the smaller blocks, this class may be just what you're looking for. The class is developed for 3", 4", 5" or 6" blocks. Although many of us will be using 1800's fabrics please do not let this limit you. You may choose any block project that you want. It may be the 5" blocks from a previous Saturday Sampler, the 6" blocks from Old Glory, the 4" blocks from Grant''s March or any 3" block.

Have you caught the "wool bug" yet? Tiny Bender is OQB's wool expert that is full of creative ideas. She will share her passion of working with wool. You will learn how to trace, cut, secure wool to cotton, wool or other fabrics AND she will teach you some really beautiful stitches to enhance your wool projects. You will have the option of choosing your own project or working on one of Tiny's latest projects. OQB has a wonderful selection of wool, kits and threads to choose from. Wool projects are very portable and can be taken anywhere to work on even if for just a few minutes here or there.
