OQB strives to offer a variety of classes along with the newest tips and techniques.  We offer lots of classes that range from very introductory level to advanced, and everything in between that includes quilting, garment sewing, bags and much more.

Small Friends - Saturday Mornings (10am-3pm) ($28)

For those of us who have a difficult time parting with that last little bit of a favorite fabrics or those who are in need of some help with the smaller blocks, this class may be just what you're looking for. The class is developed for 3", 4", 5" or 6" blocks. Although many of us will be using 1800's fabrics please do not let this limit you. You may choose any block project that you want. It may be the 5" blocks from a previous Saturday Sampler, the 6" blocks from Old Glory, the 4" blocks from Grant''s March or any 3" block.

Fuzzy Slipper Saturday Nights (6pm-10pm) ($10)

Fuzzy Slipper night is held the first Saturday evening of each month. "Fuzzy" is so popular that advance sign-up & prepayment is strongly recommended. This is a "you choose" sewing and quilting evening that you work on your own projects. Sewing hours are generally 6 - 10 pm.

This is a beginning / on-going quilt class for all levels ranging from introductory to very advanced. Janet will work with you in completing your projects as you continue to develop your quilting skills. Class Registration

OQB has a fabulous staff of teachers ready, willing and very qualified to provide instruction for all levels of quilters and sewers.  To help ensure the class you want to take is a "go", please sign-up early.  Waiting until the last few days before a class is to start risks cancellation and disappointment to both the teachers and students.  By registering early you will ensure your class of choice is a "go", have time to gather supplies and do pre-class work if necessary.  Teachers are notified of class cancellation 3 days prior to the class date.
As a reminder, class fees are fully refundable if class is cancelled by OQB if teachers "minimum attendance" is not met.

Block construction zone!!! Grab some fabrics, note paper (preferably graph paper), pencil and sewing supplies. Then get ready to go to work. No hard hat necessary! This is a technique class to explain construction of blocks. Gretchen will have a variety of blocks to choose from (beginner to advanced). If you have one in mind, that doesn't challenge copyrights, she will be glad to help you. The class is primarily for 3" - 9" blocks. Suggestions for assembling blocks together will be discussed.

Have you purchased Fiberworks patterns or kit and are simply admiring how pretty and cute it is? If so, now is your opportunity to get started on it in a Collage Class taught by Pebble. Collage quilts are made by fussy- cutting fabrics and fusing them to a background fabric in just the right place to create a specific design.

Mario Caballos is a Featherweight expert, and maintenance is a critical part of extending the life of these cute little sewing machines. In this hands-on class, you will learn to clean, oil, grease the gears, adjust the belt, and check tensions to keep your machine in tip-top condition. Mario will walk you through disassembling your machine, cleaning, oiling, and adjusting the tension. Bring your Featherweight to class along with machine oil, a flashlight, a screwdriver, fabric, thread, your machine manual, and any tools and gadgets you have for your machine.

Come learn the tricks of curve piecing using the NEW Wonder Curve Ruler! This pattern is ?stash friendly?. For the background fabrics (because it requires a lot of it), model maker recommends that you dig deep for your leftover end pieces of neutrals, low volumes, and text fabrics for the scrappy background. Pattern offers multiple size options. Baby size quilt is confident beginner skill level. Larger size quilt is intermediate skill level. Or choose to make the butterfly table runner. Table runner pattern is included with the Wonder Curve Ruler.

Do you want to quilt your own quilts, table runners and wall hangings? A Machine Quilting class will help you to do just that. Janet and Lisa will be sharing their tips and techniques starting from the pinning stage to stippling to simple designs. This class is for all levels wanting to learn to machine quilt as well as on-going students wanting to improve and develop their machine quilting skills.

Put on your fuzzy slippers and join Pam Gayle for an afternoon of sewing / quilting. She is available to help you with any project you choose. Fun, fun, fun and more fun as you spend your day in your slippers (if you like) quilting and sewing.

Whether you're picking up this hobby for the first time, or coming back to it after many years, Diane has the patience and experience to get you started on a lifelong knitting adventure. Join this on-going class anytime and receive expert hands-on instruction. Brand new students will learn one method for casting on and binding off, as well as the basic knit and purl stitches. Work at your own pace and once you've mastered the basics, Diane will introduce you to something new! Beginners must purchase a starter kit which includes needles, yarn and notions so you can jump right in.

Machine embroidery classes on Friday evening with Janet and Nancy starts at all levels including from the very beginning if you've recently purchased an embroidery machine or own one but don't know how to use it. Each session you will learn something new ranging from thread knowledge, stabilizing, downloading designs and machine / computer operations. Each lesson is 4 hours (6 - 10 pm) for a $30.00 fee

Are you ready for a new take on the Double Wedding Ring quilt? This 2-day class puts a modern twist on the traditional wedding ring quilt. Showcase some of your large or illustrative prints you've been saving up in your stash to use in the center block. If you're wanting a more traditional take on the wedding ring, Jenny can help you with that as well. Victoria Findlay Wolfe's Double Wedding Ring Acrylic Templates include all of the pieces you'll need to create a modern or traditional version of this quilt. Come join us for Smocking, Embroidery and Heirloom Sewing. This class is open to all levels of students, from beginners to those wanting to take their skills to the next level. New students will start by learning basic stitches in smocking or embroidery while learning tips and tricks for starting and ending, joining threads and centering designs. Experienced smockers and returning students may bring a project in progress or start a new one. Options include embroidery designs, bishop style dress, yoke dress, picture smocking, smocked garment construction, heirloom sewing touches and many more.

Paper piecing the Judy Niemeyer way is a wonderful technique that enables you to sew even the smallest pieces of fabric together with ease and amazing accuracy. Cat Wilson, a Certified Quiltworx instructor, will teach you Judy's paper piecing technique and share her secret tips to success. This on-going class is designed to introduce you to the paper piecing technique through more advanced techniques as you progress. Start any time and take as many classes as you would like to take. This class is offered on a monthly bases.

For those who want to advance their skills or work on a specific project, Lisa and Karen will work with you to complete your projects. Classes will generally be held four consecutive Monday evenings. Have you caught the "wool bug" yet? Tiny Bender is OQB's wool expert that is full of creative ideas. She will share her passion of working with wool. You will learn how to trace, cut, secure wool to cotton, wool or other fabrics AND she will teach you some really beautiful stitches to enhance your wool projects. You will have the option of choosing your own project or working on one of Tiny's latest projects. OQB has a wonderful selection of wool, kits and threads to choose from. Wool projects are very portable and can be taken anywhere to work on even if for just a few minutes here or there.
