It is helpful to read pages 7 through 13 in the “Magic Stack-N-Whack” book to better understand fabric selection.

Fabric Requirements – Do not wash or pre-shrink your fabric.

Eight (8) repeats of feature fabric (amount of fabric will vary depending on the length of your fabric repeat)

Fabric notes – Do not wash or pre-shrink your fabric.

The longer the designs repeat in your fabric, the more interesting your pinwheels will be.  The repeat must be counted along the selvedge edge of one side of your fabric. To find the repeat, open your fabric choice and select a point along the selvedge that is easily recognizable.  Find the exact point again along the selvedge and measure the distance. This is your repeat. Count eight (8) repeats along the same selvedge edge after you identify your starting point. It is required that you have (8) repeats and add a few extra inches for safety.  You will want to select a fabric with a WIDE repeat and lots of color to achieve a nice variety of pinwheels.  Ask for assistance at the “quilting counter” if you are not sure.

Choosing your background fabric prior to class is optional.  I recommend that you wait to purchase your background fabric the day of the class as you will want to see what best enhances your pinwheels after cutting them.  This is because you’ll want a high contrast between your pinwheels and your background. It is fun to “try out” your pinwheels on several different backgrounds at the quilt shop to determine your options.
