Supplies:
Book: Beginner’s Guide to Free-Motion Quilting by Natalia Bonner (available at the Orange Quilt Bee)
Fabric (solid or tone on tone that reads as a solid):
Top: 2/3 yd.
Backing: 2/3 yd.
Large flower fabric for applique: fat quarter
Batting: Warm and Natural: 2/3 yd.
Thread that contrasts fabric color, 40wt Polyester (I used Isacord thread) or 50wt Cotton
Free-Motion Quilting Foot (open toe or clear plastic works the best)
Needles: Topstitch or Microtex 80/12
Fabric marker FriXion pen
6x12 ruler
Optional (but very helpful additional items):
Extension Table
Quilting gloves
Pre-Class Preparation:
Cut 6 -12”x12” squares from top and backing fabrics and batting
- On one square of the top fabric, fuse a flower in the middle of the square with fusible web
- Make 6 quilt sandwiches:
layer one top fabric, batting and backing fabric to make one sandwich
(do not baste with pins or adhesive)
For this class you will need a sewing machine (working knowledge of your machine, extra bobbins, needles, manual), basic quilting supplies (rotary cutter, ruler, mat) and basic sewing supplies (scissors, thread, seam ripper, etc.)
