Introductory Notes

This is a fairly simple jacket. The design and pattern is scalable to a certain extent. We will not
be making the welt pockets in the class – these are complicated and integral to the design. If you
would like to add the pockets after the class, you are welcome to do that. The pockets require
some un-quilted coordinating fabric and ¼ yard fusible interfacing, so keep that in mind.

Pre-Class Preparation
The instructions say that you can cut out your pattern pieces and then quilt each piece, but this
will take considerably longer that we have for this class. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that
you bring a new or used quilt that you would like to turn into a Tamarack Jacket. Otherwise, you
can purchase pre-quilted yardage.

Prepare the binding:
You can use either coordinating fabric for your binding or purchase bias tape. You will need at
least 5 yards of binding. I would suggest 5 ¼ yards. I used 2 ½” cut yardage with 45 degree seams; it is
folded in half and pressed. I apply my binding to the front of the quilt/garment using ¼” seam
allowance and then wrapping the binding to the back and stitching in-the-ditch on the front side
to secure the back of the binding. You can prepare whatever type of binding you are most
comfortable with and attach and finish it accordingly.
