Quilt Coat Class w/Pam (10am-4pm) ($75)

Join Pam in making the cutest quilt coat you've ever seen!
Note: This will be a very small class so that we have space to lay out and cut out our coat patterns. You will need a sewing machine that does a zig-zag stitch for finishing seams.
RECOMMENDED: DO NOT CUT YOUR QUILT prior to class.
The Elemental Quilt pattern is a coat pattern designed for quilters. Pattern is available for purchase when you sign up for the class. You will also want to purchase pattern paper to trace your pattern prior to class.
While the pattern was initially designed for use with an existing quilt, you may also choose to make your coat from a single fabric that has been quilted, cheater cloth, canvas fabric, a bedspread, or a tablecloth.
Google “Teresa Coates elemental coat pattern” and scroll down to watch “Let’s Make a Coat using the Elemental Coat pattern” from Crinkle Dreams. Video is roughly an hour long but will be very helpful in helping you decide what you want to do.
Prior to class trace a full pattern in desired size on pattern paper. Full pattern means 2 sleeves, 1 full collar, 1 full back, 1 right front, 1 left front, and 2 pockets, 2 hood pieces if desired. Label “This side Up” to avoid confusion and error in layout and cutting. Mark all dots. You may also find it helpful to make a “muslin” to check the size before cutting from your quilt.
In class we will spend a little bit of time talking about how to lay out your pattern on your particular quilt. We do not necessarily need to worry about pattern pieces being on grain. You choose the length of coat that you want, the sleeve length that you want, and whether or not you want a collar or a hood. We can also talk about sleeve adjustments if you have larger arms.
While we will not finish our coats in class, I think you will come close. And on a good note, Teresa also has several other videos that include “How to Add a Collar”, “How to add a Hood”, “How to add a Hong Kong Finish”, and “How to add a Zipper” so that you can be confident in however you wish to finish your quilted coat.
